Dianne Dietrich Leis
Photography is a family tradition. I learned my craft from my wonderfully talented and patient father, Dick Dietrich, of Arizona Highways Magazine, fame. Summers growing up were spent car camping, traveling through every state in the lower 48, plus half of Canada. The goal: to capture the soul of America and her wild lands on film. In those days, Dick photoed with an 8x10 Sinar, a huge beast of a view camera. I used my trusty Nikkormat 35mm. On the occasion of my 16th birthday, Dad presented me with a beautiful cherry wood Deardorff 5x7 view camera. That was more years ago than I care to admit, but I've never looked back. A passion for travel, landscape, and nature photography has provided me wonderful opportunities to explore this beautiful world of ours. Dick and I created a successful stock photo agency, Dietrich Photography, Inc., which I continue to operate today. A long career has seen my work published in Sierra Club and National Geographic books plus hundreds of calendars, and magazines. These days I contribute my work to conservation causes such as Nature Conservancy and Sierra Club and volunteer my time to further their work. |

After years of being Dianne's sherpa, carrying her equipment to the top of Half Dome or down the Grand Canyon, I finally bought a digital camera and began photoing as well. By day, I'm a physician, but evenings, weekends, and vacations it is all photography. We have been lucky to be able to turn our love of the outdoors and photography into a lasting relationship of 40+ years. It's our hope, to inspire you to get out into the wild, and as John Muir said: "Keep close to Nature's heart..." |
