Monument Valley Arizona/Utah September 2018 The ancestral land of the Navajo Nation, was the location of our latest adventure. Joining a photo shoot organized by the Phoenix Camera Club, we were honored to have both Ambrose Redhouse and Nazbah Stanley model for us, Later, Tully, our Navajo guide, gave us a bone jarring ride to the top of Hunt's Mesa. Our reward, was a fabulous view of buttes and mesas stretching to the horizon. Perched on a rocky ledge, we photographed this amazing topography of sculpted monoliths watching as storm clouds and the lowering sun painted colors and shadows across the rock formations. As night fell, a black velvet sky pricked by a billion stars mesmerized, the Milky Way arching overhead. That night as we lay our heads down in our small tent, pitched under a Juniper tree, we could hear the crackle of the dying campfire and the soft laughter our Navajo guides. They spoke in a language, as ancient as the land around us. Their words, floating on the wind are heard by their ancestors, still present in this place. In the Navajo language, all was Hozho... in harmony |
