We set our alarm, and took off in the pre-dawn darkness for a rendezvous at Schwabacher's Landing. Here, a beaver's dam diverts the river into a glass smooth pool. The towering Tetons, cold and grey, wait patiently at the water's edge. It's here in the cool stillness, that we wait, as a faint Eastern glow heralds the coming day. Our senses heighten, when at last, the sun's warm fingers gently touch the tallest peak. In the course of a couple minutes, light gently slides down the mountain slopes caressing her in a rosy glow. The still waters below become her looking glass, perfectly reflecting her radiance, back to the heavens. It is these moments, when my soul and nature's abounding beauty collide, that I feel truly alive, and utterly at peace. All too soon, the wind picks up, the reflection becomes a scattered jigsaw puzzle. Voices of humans and the slamming of car doors obliterate the stillness. But for a few brief minutes, all was perfection, mine to savor, in my mind, in my heart, and happily, for you, in my camera's memory card!
